Want to take your Toyota GR86 or Subaru BRZ for a camping trip to the Japan’s snowy mountains? The Kuhl Outroad is the answer

- Kuhl’s new Outroad project is based on the Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ.
- Rugged kit adds sporty design cues and a hydraulic suspension lift system.
- A demo model will debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon before going on sale.
Japanese tuners are already busy crafting their projects for the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon, and of course, Kuhl Racing wasn’t about to sit one out. The outfit famous for its loud wide-body kits has unveiled its next production-intent creation: a lifted sports car that claims it can handle rough terrain.
Set to be offered for sale next year, the Kuhl Outroad takes shape from the Toyota GR86 (and Subaru BRZ). You can think of it as the working man’s take on the Porsche 911 Dakar or Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato, a back-road fantasy for anyone without a supercar budget or a private sand dune to play on.

The teasers and 3D images offer an early glimpse of what’s coming, though they don’t yet show the suspension upgrades that will quite literally lift it to new heights.
The bodykit brings redesigned front and rear bumpers with enlarged intakes and integrated skid plates. These are paired with SUV-style fender extensions that make room for chunkier tires, while sharp roof rails add a crossover touch, though it’s uncertain if they’ll serve a practical function.
Kuhl Racing
Despite these rugged cues, the visual drama remains pure Kuhl. The pronounced front, side, and rear skirts don’t exactly help approach or departure angles, but they sharpen the car’s stance alongside headlight covers and a vented hood that give it a brooding, track-ready energy.
The highlight, though, sits at the back where we find rear glass louvers and a ducktail spoiler. Kuhl admits these details nod to the Mad Max films.
Suspension Upgrades Coming Soon
While the renderings still show the standard ride height of the GR86 and BRZ, Kuhl has bigger plans. A height-adjustable suspension with a hydraulic lift is on the way, expected to raise ground clearance by 30 to 45 mm (1.2 to 1.8 inches).

Complementing that setup are uprated brakes and a custom set of 18-inch Verz Wheels, shod in off-road tires. Together, these elements recall the digital-only GR86 Shooting Brake Crossover concept created a few years ago by digital artist Sugar Chow.

There’s no mention yet of performance upgrades to the naturally aspirated 2.4-liter boxer engine which is good for 232 hp (173 kW / 235 PS) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque in stock form. Both Toyota and the Subaru offer a choice between a manual or an automatic gearbox.
Kuhl plans to release additional renderings later this month, with the first real-world prototype of the Kuhl Outroad Light Style due by the end of November. The finished demo car will be unveiled at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon before going on sale in Japan.
